We have several renovations completed or planned for the Children’s Garden. This week we worked on the water feature, the pond. Knox County Career Center’s landscaping teacher Jim Scott and students were instructed by industry expert Demi Fortuna, who flew in from New York. Fortuna, along with the students helped to design and build the pond in the Children’s Garden over 3 days. Fortuna is Director of Product Information for Atlantic Water Gardens. Fortuna has over 25 years of experience in all aspects of water garden design and construction, the last ten years in product research, development, sales and product training. He also has his own water feature design/build business - August Moon Designs. “I have a passion for educating people and students,” said Fortuna.

We are thankful for our relationship with Joe Boff at Wolf Creek Co. Distribution, a KCCC landscaping advisory committee member, who was integral in securing Fortuna’s visit and instruction at the career center. “It was a great opportunity to partner with industry,” said Jim Scott.

KCCC landscaping students comments were “Fortuna was good at explaining and giving details and instruction as he was installing the pond equipment” “Fortuna was motivated to keep everyone working” “I am grateful for the experience and the knowledge that was imparted”.

We have many other renovations taking place at the Children’s Garden. We are accepting donations to help offset costs, please send any and all donations to Knox County Career Center – Children’s Garden, 306 Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.

We invite you to come and enjoy the Children’s Garden, open May through October weather permitting. Hours of operation are 8:00am – Dusk weekdays and 9:00am – Dusk on weekends. Visit for more information.
